Haiti Mission Trips
Summary of trips by teams April to December
CAC coordinates mission trips to Haiti to provide much needed medical and dental services for the poor people in three communities- Merger, Jacmel, and Arcahaie. CAC also provides five (5) days of special services to 100-250 local students through Vacation Bible School and Computer Literacy. This mission is an effort to support the work of Institute of Grace (IOG) project at Miracia Hospital in Merger, Haiti. The Miracia Hospital project serves 20,000 residents of Merger and surrounding communities who do not have access to healthcare. It is the hope of IOG to soon make Miracia a fully operational hospital.
Activities of the team
Each team which consists of 2 to 17 members visit Haiti at various times throughout the year during the months of April, July, and December. Volunteers from DC, Maryland, and Michigan serve on medical, clergy, and support teams. For leisure, the team visits Baptiste Mission, Fort Jacques, and a local Beach in Merger.
Free Clinics and Dental Care
Open clinics are held at Miracia Hospital, Merger; for 100-200 people, free of charge.
Open clinics are held at Merothe, Arcahaie; for 200-250 people, free of charge.
Open clinics are held at Marigo, Jacmel; for 400 people, free of charge.
Medical Seminars for 30-50 Nurses are conducted.
Leadership Conferences for 150 pastors and professionals are conducted.
Activities of the VBS Program
A Vacation Bible School (VBS) program is held for 100-250 students of various ages, from toddlers to young adults. The goal is to provide a Christ-centered summer camp for the children that would be fun and inspirational through arts and crafts, games, scripture reading, music, and film.
Outcomes
• 100-250 children enjoy the arts and crafts, music (singing and dancing), and the films.
• Daily Lunch distribution: students congregate in a downstairs cafeteria and are served in an orderly manner.
• Syllabus - A daily syllabus, helps each of the team members lead classes.
• School teachers and translators are critical to the success of the VBS program. They help with maintaining order and discipline, occupying the children with songs and games that they were familiar with.
• Each team member is responsible for retrofitting the syllabus for their particular age group, adjusting and adding new activities as needed. This brings much success to the program.
Computer Literacy Seminar for Youth and Adults
Twenty teenagers from the VBS program gain basic computer skills, including computer terminology, basic architecture and word processing. Additionally, 10 young adults are introduced to basic computer architecture, web development skills, and other information based on questions and time.
Outcomes
• 30 participants seem to really enjoy this component of the program. They stay engaged and inspired.
• 30 participants learn some basic computer skills that could prove beneficial as they move on with their future
